This is the Weiao BOMA EV, a mini electric car with four seats. Three models were launched with a price range of 39,900 – 51,900 RMB (5,700 – 7,460 USD) in China. Weiao is a new energy vehicle brand under Hongri Electric Vehicle. The BOMA EV is the first car under the Weiao brand and will be manufactured by ZX Auto (Hebei Zhongxing Automobile Co Ltd), a Chinese producer of LSEVs, passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and auto parts.
Hongri Electric Vehicle was founded in 2014 focusing on the R&D and manufacturing of electric vehicles. Its product line covers electric bicycles and low-speed four-wheel electric vehicles (also known as 老头乐 in China) ranging from SUVs to minicars including the S1, U8, Hongdou, VeLi, and Lidian. The biggest highlight of the Weiao BOMA EV is the design of its front face, which is a mini clone of the Toyota Alphard. From the headlights and big grille to the shape of the front bumper, it is exactly the same as the Toyota Alphard.
The car is available in three body colors: white, blue, and gold. As a mini EV, the size of the BOMA EV is 3517/1495/1660 mm with a 2495 mm wheelbase. It runs on 15-inch aluminum alloy rims and 165/55 R15 tires. It is positioned as direct competitor to the famous Wuling Hongguang Mini EV.
In the previous spied car image, we can see that the lower left has the ZX Auto logo and the lower right has the Hongri BOMA logo. The rear has a roof spoiler and a high-mounted brake light.
Power comes from a 30kW front permanent magnet synchronous motor with a peak torque of 84Nm. The car provides two ternary lithium battery options. The 11.9kWh option has a pure electric cruising range of 130km and a slow charging time of 7 hours from 0 – 100%. The 18.5kWh option has a pure electric cruising range of 200km and a slow charging time of 10 hours from 0 – 100%. The top speed is 100 km/h.
The interior is simple, adopting a dual-screen for the high-end model consisting of a 7-inch instrument panel and a 9-inch central control screen (the standard model only has an LCD instrument panel), and a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel. There is a row of physical function buttons above the air conditioning outlet. Weiao claims that the car has 16 storage spaces. In terms of safety, the car comes standard with a rear radar, an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, automatic door unlock after an accident, and tire pressure monitoring. However, no airbags or electronic stability control.
The high-end model also comes with a 6-speaker sound system.
