There’s still time to take in the Paper Town exhibit at the Fitchburg Art Museum, an imaginative and innovative display up through June 4 featuring creative creations by several talented New England artists that pays tribute to Fitchburg’s history of paper manufacturing.

According to the exhibit description on the museum website, in their work with paper the artists explore personal histories and cultural traditions, create navigational devices for mental maps and imagined cityscapes, and study complex mathematic principles — nature, science, and art meet to showcase paperwork’s transformative potential.

The exhibition takes paper out of the two-dimensional into a world that is fantastical, intricate, colorful, and personal and explores paper in pulp, cast, folded, and cut forms. Paper Town is the third in a series of FAM exhibitions that link contemporary practice to the industrial heritage of North Central Massachusetts and is sponsored by Can-Am Machinery Inc. of Fitchburg and the Simonds Lecture Fund.
